Antonio Rafael Consuegra

October 2, 1931 — December 18, 2022

Antonio Rafael Consuegra, lovingly known as Ito (ee-toe), passed away on Sunday, December 18th, 2022. He was born on October 2nd 1931 which means he lived to 91 years old.

The son of Julio and Juanita, Ito was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. He outlived his siblings, Alberto, Julio, and Ramona. He is survived by his wife, Carmenza, his three children, Jackie, Martha, and Raul, and his nine grandchildren, and the pooch Cocoa.

He moved to Boston after high school and graduated from Northeastern with a bachelors in chemical engineering. Ito recalls the fun times he had with his roommates on Beacon St. and the hard work he dedicated to learning English and Chemical Engineering. As an engineer, he enjoyed talking about his formulas and the intricacies of chemistry. All of his grandchildren know how enthusiastic and knowledgeable he was to educate us about all that he knew. He married to the love of his life, Carmenza Vargas on Jan 6th of 1962. In December of 1968, Ito, CC, Raul, Martha, and Jackie immigrated northwards to the refreshingly brisk Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ito fondly remembered for being a proud American citizen. He fervently believed in the American Dream of freedom. On December 19th, 1974, CC and Ito proudly became citizens of the United States. He was passionate about doing what was true and right. He was insistent on staying up to date and with the world around him. As a proud American, proud republican, an avid Trump fan, he died as lived, watching Fox News. Outside of his proud history of patriotism, Ito loved horses as he owned a racehorse and as he grew older, he enjoyed betting on the races. He had a deep love for competition, specifically soccer and golf. He played golf as much as he possibly could, always happy to talk how low his score was at 80 years old. Ito and CC loved to dance, and on his 90th birthday his family came together to dance the night away. Every Monday night, he played poker with Raul and his poker buddies. Ito was a fond and supportive grandfather to his grandchildren. Every time the families went to visit him, he'd pull out a metal box, knock on it three times and ask "who's there?" And he'd pull a bar of Hershey's chocolate and the kids would get a slice of Hershey's chocolate, pretending to bite off his fingers. After eating the chocolate, the grandchildren sat in awe listen to the Ito tell adventurous stories of Casper the ghost. His love of chocolate lived on through out his whole life, especially his favorite chocolate ice cream, with chocolate chips. Ito, no matter when or where would top each meal with salt and pepper, and craved a good meal cooked by CC.

As a passionate, loving, and supportive father and grandfather, Ito touched each one of our hearts tremendously. Ito's strong willed and stubborn personality is evident in his children and grandchildren as he raised all of us to stand by what we believed in, for keeping an opening mind from as small as an atom to as vast as the expanding universe, the possibilities are endless, and through Ito's footsteps each descendent has achieved great success and his legacy will carry on for generations.
