Betty M. Oppliger

December 7, 1941 — September 24, 2021

Betty Marie Oppliger, 79, of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021. She was born in St Louis on December 7, 1941, to Rudolph and Viola (Larson) Zuroweste.

Betty grew up in Ferguson, MO, and graduated from Ferguson High School. After starting college classes at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, she transferred to the University of Missouri - Columbia where she graduated with a master's degree in Education.

Betty mainly taught third grade in the Ferguson School District. After teaching and later supervising student teachers, she switched careers. She worked 25+ years at Nordyne, Inc. as a Human Resource Manager until retiring in 2007.

It was in Columbia where Betty met the love of her life, Norman. They were married on August 8, 1967. Together they had two children and five grandchildren. Betty loved her family and always cherished the time they spent together. She enjoyed working the daily crossword, reading, doing puzzles, bowling, line dancing and cheering on the St. Louis sports teams. She was often seen trying her luck at the slots in St. Charles. Time with the family always included games, cards and baking treats.

During her life Betty was involved in various groups and activities. This included the choir and bell choir at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. While the kids were in high school, she actively participated in the Pattonville Band Boosters. Later in life she had roles in the Soroptimist International of Greater St Louis, an organization for the betterment of women and girls in the St Louis Area.

Betty is survived by her husband, Norm; her children, Christopher (Jennifer) Oppliger and Wendy Kryah; her grandchildren, Logan, Bannon, and Ivy Kryah, Vivian and Beatrice Oppliger. Betty and her wonderful sense of humor will be dearly missed by family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Rudolph H. Zuroweste, III.
