Bill Pochek, a devoted family man and a talented handyman, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 22, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri. He was born on June 18, 1936, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Bill's life was defined by a remarkable career, cherished family moments, and a passion for creative problem-solving that touched everyone who knew him.
Bill dedicated over 40 years to Emerson Electric, where he diligently worked his way up from an entry-level position to become the senior manager of manufacturing. His journey in the company was marked by hard work, commitment, and a tenacious spirit, reflecting his character both professionally and personally. A proud graduate of Washington University, he took immense pride in seeing his legacy continue through his family, notably his oldest daughter and granddaughter, who also attended the esteemed institution.
Bill was not only a figure of guidance and support in the workplace but also in his home, where he was known for his clever solutions and practical skills. His daughters often reminisced about how he had a tool for everything and possessed a remarkable knack for fixing anything that was broken. Whether it was a household item or a complicated computer system — Bill had built his own computer long before they became commonplace — he delighted in the challenges that came with repairs and DIY projects.
In addition to his talents, Bill's personality was marked by a reserved nature, and a small circle of treasured friendships. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as taking trips, most notably to Las Vegas, and participating in shooting sports like target, skeet, and trap, skills at which he excelled.
Throughout his life, Bill poured love into his family, celebrating milestones and accomplishments with them. He was particularly proud of his grandchildren, who brought him boundless joy and happiness. His heart swelled with pride for the next generation and their achievements.
Bill is survived by his loving daughters, Pam (Tom) Montgomery and Jill Pochek, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Ashley (Dave) Sparks and Nicholas Montgomery. He joins in eternal rest his cherished wife, Joan Pochek; his parents, William Adalbert and Norma Roberta Pochek; and brother Charles Pochek, who is survived by his wife Rosie.
Family and friends are invited to honor Bill’s life at a visitation to be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County, located in Chesterfield, Missouri.
