Carl Lynn Grob, 75, of Wentzville, MO., passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28th, 2024.
He was born to the late Charles W. and Violet D. Grob on August 17th, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri. Carl graduated from McCluer High School in 1966 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Missouri in 1975. Carl proudly served in the United States Army as a Sergeant, 101st Airborne, and was stationed in Vietnam from August 1969 to March 1971. He married Shirley Marie Ledkins in 1981. They lived together in Wentzville, Missouri, for 43 years.
Carl worked as a Social Worker for the State of Missouri for over 35 years in the Division of Children and Family Services. He was an advocate for abused children and was assigned the most challenging cases. He loved helping children and enjoyed seeing them thrive. Carl was an active member of Church on The Rock in St. Peters, Missouri, for over 40 years, where he served as an Usher and assisted with the Royal Rangers program. Carl and Shirley love serving the Lord and spending time with family and friends, and are very proud grandparents. They have raised bulldogs, and also raised Quarter Horses for over 30 years. Carl loved traveling with Shirley when possible and enjoyed going on trail rides with Shirley at locations throughout the United States.
Carl is survived by his loving wife Shirley of 43 years, stepdaughter Stephanie (Bill) Mertzlufft; grandchildren Matthew (Margaret) Mertzlufft, Andrew Mertzlufft, Melanie Mertzlufft; great-grandchild Nora; brother Doug (Amy) Grob; nieces Amanda Grob and Sarah (Jonathon) Carnes; and their seven children.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home – St. Peters Chapel, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 7th, from 4 to 8 pm.
The funeral service will occur at Church on the Rock, 888 Birdie Hills Road, St. Peters, Missouri, on February 8th. There will be a short viewing from 11 am to noon. The service will start promptly at noon. Immediately following the service, there will be a police-escorted funeral procession to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for a 2 pm burial service.
