Washington, Missouri

Carole “Ruth” (Ruthie) Bushue, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to strength and independence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her daughter's home in St. Charles, Missouri, on September 30, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on January 12, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, she touched the lives of many with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family.

A proud graduate of Granite City High School, class of 1962, Ruthie held diverse positions that showcased her strong work ethic and determination. She made her mark in various roles, working at several groceries, serving as a waitress at Mense's Landing in Washington, Missouri, and taking on the responsibilities of Shop Steward for Lincoln St. Louis in the late 1970s—a time when it was rare for women to take on such positions in male-dominated fields. Her influence as a strong female figure will be felt for generations.

In her later years, she was an accounts receivable clerk for an OB-GYN practice at Mercy Hospital St. Louis.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ruthie enjoyed and perfected her hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress and her skills in knitting and crocheting were remarkable. She was a talented woodworker and had a green thumb. Her beloved cats brought her countless moments of happiness. A spirited soul, she even shared her love for dance as a disco dancing instructor.

She excelled at every job and hobby she undertook, and her unwavering resolve and dedication inspired many yet her role as a mother and grandmother was her proudest accomplishment.

Ruthie was generous, fiercely independent with a great sense of humor that drew others to her. She was known for her kindness and was a wonderful role model for her daughters, Kelly (Jared Frankenberg) Kerr, Rebecca (Bobby) Hance, and Valerie (Jim) Warren.

Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren—Michael (Laura) Sullentrup, Alex Desmond, Alicia Desmond, Anthony (Taylor Leone) Barringhaus, Sophia (Adam) Cirone, and David (Samantha Lindert) Raub—as well as her great-granddaughters, Riley Desmond, Sloanne Desmond, and Alexis Sullentrup.

Ruthie leaves behind not only her loving daughters and cherished grandchildren but also her siblings: Sonja (Jim) Howard, Jack (Sally) Cochran, Michael (Mary) Cochran, and Colleen (Rob) Miller. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Maryann Cochran.

Preceding her in death, Ruthie was reunited with her beloved parents, Clifford and Verna Cochran; her son, Bruce Bushue; brothers Bruce Cochran and Merlie (Delores) Cochran; and longtime significant other, Don McMorris.

In her final moments, surrounded by her beloved daughters, Ruthie exemplified the love and strength she imparted throughout her life. She will be missed dearly but remembered always for the joy she brought into the lives of her family and friends. Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life for Ruthie will be held in Spring 2025. Please check back for updated information on the date and time.
