Clyde Clayton Stanford, age 92, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in St Peters, Missouri. He was born in Villa Grove, Illinois on July 19, 1926 to James and Myrtle Stanford (nee Anderson).
Clyde Stanford was never boring. He lived high, loved hard and brought energy and adventure to life. He was successful in every venture and promoted in every job that he ever had except with his own business and there he took on every job and asked nothing of his employees that he would not have done himself. He loved his leisure time activities. In the years that he and Linda were married he enjoyed, owned and used: old cars and trucks, airplanes, ski boats, horses, snow mobiles, motorcycles, Mustangs, ATV's, Jeeps and two cabins (one on the Mississippi River in Missouri and one at Caddo lake in Texas). He was instrumental in promoting safe and interesting off road adventures for Jeeps, 4 wheel drive vehicles, ATV's and dirt bikes. He contributed to the success of Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area near Gilmer, TX, and Superlift Off Road Vehicle Park near Hot Springs, AR. As manager of these parks, his trails had accurate maps and signs. They were kept true to their rating. Riders were confident in Clyde's help and advice. He was always available if someone got into trouble. He went the extra mile to help new riders learn the fun of 4 wheeling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois Evelyn Snyder and his daughter Deborah Price. Clyde is survived by his wife Linda Truelove Stanford, daughter Jana (Clip) Palmer, son Mike (Ruth) Stanford, ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister Louise Ward of Lakewood, CO and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
