Constance Joyce Simpson

April 22, 1935 — January 3, 2019

Constance Joyce (Markve) Simpson, 83, wife of Jack R. Simpson, 85, of Saint Peters, Mo., died on January 31, 2019, at The Villages of Saint Peters Skilled Nursing Center following an extended illness. Previously, they had lived in Florissant, Mo. for 44 years.

Connie (Constance) was born on April 22, 1935, in Watertown, S.D., the daughter of Carl and Alma Markve, whose family home was a farm near Florence. Connie attended Watertown High School. She later became an elementary school teacher and taught school in Watertown, Aberdeen and a country school in rural Florence.

In the early 1950s, Connie attended college in Aberdeen, S.D., where she and Jack were married on August 10, 1958.

In 1959, the couple transferred to the University of Missouri at Columbia, where Connie majored in education and earned a lifetime teaching certificate for Missouri. Jack earned his bachelor's degree in journalism.

Following one year in Quincy, Ill., they moved to Rapid City, S.D., where Connie continued as a teacher and Jack as a journalist. In 1974, they moved to Florissant, Mo.

It was on August 10, 2006, when Connie suffered the first of three strokes, accompanied by seizures. She remained at home with her husband and caregivers in attendance until, after constant care, she was moved to a skilled nursing home in April of 2018.

Constance was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Immediate survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Sherri Lynn (Mrs. Matthew Giacalone of Saint Peters, Mo.) and Tracey Ann (Mrs. Kim Zang of Saint Charles, Mo.); her sister, Ann (Mrs. Jerry Olson of Watertown, S.D.); four grandchildren, Jeffrey Rudisill (and wife Megan) of Foristell, Mo., Jennifer Rudisill of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Nicholas and Christina Giacalone of Saint Peters; and great-granddaughters, Olivia Marie and Rylee Ann Rudisill of Foristell. Lucy James Rudisill, their sister, was born just days after Connie passed away. Several cousins and their children live in South Dakota.
