Coy D. Frost

October 18, 1938 — August 10, 2023

Coy Douglass Frost, age 84, of Wentzville, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born in Paris, Arkansas on October 18, 1938; the 12th child of Omer and Monnie Frost (nee Inman). After a coal mining accident that fatally injured his father, he was raised by his aunt, Maggie Phinisey, who he lovingly called Mamma.

Coy completed his schooling in Richmond, California and then enlisted in the Army. His main service was in the Cold Weather Mountain School at Fort Greely, Alaska. It was there that he taught skiing and outdoor survival skills to other soldiers who would be deployed into cold-weather locations. Coy completed his Army service at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, which is where he met his wife, Christine.

Coy and Christine were married in Independence, Missouri, and spent time in Minnesota, California, and Arkansas before retiring back in Missouri. They were married for 60 years.

Coy's Army training led him into a first career as a survey instrument repair technician, initially working for Brunson Instrument Company in Kansas City, then Albinson Instrument Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and finally for Leitz Survey Instruments in Burlingame, California. After a successful secular career, Coy felt the desire to serve God by serving His people and churches. The family moved back to Coy's home state and opened the Christian Family Center, a Christian bookstore in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Coy and Christine worked side-by-side in the bookstore for 35 years before retiring.

Coy had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid coin and stamp collector. He loved fishing, and bowling. He coached his daughter's softball team and they often golfed together. In later years, he loved playing cards with his family and friends. Many hours were spent around the kitchen table playing Cribbage and Pinochle.

Coy served faithfully in his church. He especially had a heart for the Spanish speaking populations in Central and South America, making many mission trips, preaching the Gospel fluently in Spanish. Coy assisted with the construction of countless churches, with Primera Iglesia Bautista de Fort Smith (Arkansas) being the most dear to his heart.

Coy is survived by his Wife, Christine; Daughter, Sharon (Gary) Shelby; one Grandchild, Matthew (Elisabeth) Shelby; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Omer Frost; Mother, Monnie Frost; Momma , Maggie Phinisey; and 11 brothers and sisters, and one step-sister.

A celebration of Coy's life will be held on Wednesday, August 16th, at St. Peters Chapel, Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376 with Dr. Michael Atherton and Bro. Oscar Guiterrez officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until 11:00am at St. Peters Chapel, with the service immediately following at 11:00am. Interment will be at St. Charles Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, Coy would have been thrilled for others to donate to the ongoing work at Primera Iglesia Bautista de Fort Smith. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 10831 Fort Smith, AR 72917, or to the family and they will be forwarded to the church. Please mark checks with "Coy Frost Memorial".
