Daniel James Calloway

January 20, 1939 — January 26, 2019

Daniel James Calloway, age 80, of O Fallon, Missouri passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Saturday, January 26, 2019. He was born in Franklinton, Louisiana on January 20, 1939 to the late Arliss and Rose Calloway (nee: Hussion).

Dan spent the majority of his career working in the aircraft industry. His first job was with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO. Over the span of his career Dan accepted positions with Boeing and Cessna in Wichita, KS. Through his hard work and dedication to support his family, Dan retired from Boeing as an Executive Manager on the B-2 Stealth aircraft assembly team. As proud as we were of Dan's accomplishments his aircraft industry career was not his passion. Dan owned Milano Bakery in Florissant, MO. Our family spent many years working together in our bakery in which many cherished memories were created and will live in our hearts forever. Once Dan entered retirement he became restless and bored. Dan accepted a position at Hometown buffet in Wichita, KS. Dan loved that job more than any other. Hometown buffet was an exact fit for his personality. As the assistant manager he ran the kitchen like it was an aircraft assembly line. But most of all he loved spending his time with customers. He told them stories and listened to theirs. Dan formed long lasting relationships with his team he worked with during his employment at Hometown buffet. He enjoyed all the camaraderie and stories and was always happy to share them.

Dan was an avid sports fan. He was a lifelong, loyal fan of Notre Dame Football and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. Dan was equal to an encyclopedia of statistics based on his passion for sports. He loved collecting old toys especially metal and hot wheel cars. He spent weekends with Mom going to auctions and garage sales looking for toy treasures.

In his personal life anyone that knew Dan knows his life's purpose was to love and protect his family. Dan is survived by his Loving wife of 61 years, Josephine, Children, Fran (Willie Huehl) Culbertson, Rosie Day, Josie Dody, Patty (John) Melton, Son, Late Danny Jr. (Michele) Calloway and John (Mona) Calloway. Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.
