David Burney Sr.

November 19, 1943 — January 22, 2025

O'Fallon

David Burney Sr. passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, in St. Charles, Missouri, at the age of 81. Born on November 19, 1943, in Marshfield, Missouri, David's journey was marked by love, dedication, and a deep respect for family and friends. His charismatic personality and unwavering dependability made him a treasure in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

David spent many fulfilling years as an electrician, passionately owning his own business while also dedicating three decades of service at the Ford Motor Company. His commitment to the community extended beyond his professional endeavors; he contributed significantly as a board secretary at the United Auto Workers (UAW). Those who knew David remember him not just as a skilled tradesman but as a sweet man with an infectious love for life.

At the heart of David's life was his beloved wife, Kathleen Carr-Burney. Their bond was a beautiful testament to partnership, where laughter was abundant, often sparked by David's talent for sharing jokes that brought smiles to Kathleen’s face. Together, they created precious memories that family and friends will cherish forever.

Family was everything to David, and he took immense pride in being present for his loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, two sons, David R. Burney, Jr. and Jim (Reva) Carr, and their two daughters, Laura Lanham and Tracy Reeves. David was also a devoted brother to Donny (Penny) Burney and sister Marceda Harris. His family tree extends even further, as he leaves behind a treasured legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with a nephew, Willard Perryman. Each of these relationships filled his heart with joy, and his warmth will continue to inspire them all.

An avid lover of the outdoors, David thrived in activities like hunting and fishing, where he found solace and adventure. He was not only a pro at solitaire, but also possessed a childlike wonder, enjoying the thrill of building and firing off rockets. Often seen by the grill with a spatula in hand, David took great pleasure in barbecuing and sharing meals from his smoker, creating an atmosphere of joy and companionship with every gathering.

Though David's physical presence is no longer with us, the impact he made throughout his life is undeniable. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, DeEtta Burney; father, Ralph Aaron Burney, his mother, Beulah A. Burney, and two sisters, Lola Perryman and Shirley Purnell. Their memories live on in the stories shared by those who loved him, echoing his gentle spirit and the cherished moments they spent together.

A visitation honoring David will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, on January 31, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with additional visitation until 8 PM. The final resting place will be at Marshfield City Cemetery on February 1, 2025, with a graveside service starting at 11:00 AM.

In this time of sorrow, let us remember David Burney Sr. for the love he shared, the laughter he created, and the life he lived so fully. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those he loved.
