David Michael Hrdlicka, born on November 5, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri, following a lengthy illness. He was lovingly attended in his final moments by his sister, Sharon, embodying the caring nature that marked his life.
David's life was dedicated to his family, friends, and his passion for sports. He began his career in selling auto parts at Tri City Auto Parts in Ballwin, Missouri, where he earned the affectionate nickname "Tri City Dave" for his warm and engaging phone manner. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to assist in establishing PAP - Pacific Auto Parts in Pacific, MO, and subsequently worked at well-known companies like O'Reilly's and Car Quest. David eventually concluded his career as a night security guard at Gambrill Gardens, a position that brought him satisfaction and a sense of community.
A graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Class of 1974, David was known for his introverted yet observant personality. His keen attention to detail and remarkable memory set him apart; he could recall names and details about extended family across generations and held a treasure trove of knowledge about Blues and Cardinals players of yesteryear, earning him the reputation of being a walking sports historian.
David's love for sports was profound, particularly for the St. Louis Blues and the St. Louis Cardinals. He shared memorable nights with his brothers and sisters attending Blues games every Tuesday and Saturday, graciously treating them to their tickets. He celebrated with joy when the Blues won the Stanley Cup, a moment he had eagerly awaited for 52 years, and was equally proud whenever the Cardinals triumphed in the World Series. His enthusiasm for sports also extended to the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams Football teams during their tenures in St. Louis.
Beyond sports, David was a patriot who cherished his country. His life was woven with warmth, kindness, and many cherished moments spent with family. He is survived by his loving siblings: Tom (Linda) Hrdlicka, Greg (Melinda) Hrdlicka, Sr., Sharon (the late Philip) Zahn, Janine (Brian) Bannon, Scott (Betty) Hrdlicka, Mary Sendobry, and Chris Hrdlicka. He was also a beloved uncle, cherished by 19 nieces and nephews, along with 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.
David is preceded in death by his father, Charles Joseph Hrdlicka, Jr., his mother, Mary Ann Hrdlicka, and his brother, Richard Hrdlicka.
His absence leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him. Not just a brother, uncle, or friend, but a true testament of love and loyalty. His quiet strength, dedicated spirit, and unwavering support for his loved ones will be missed dearly.
