David Paul Alvin Ostmann, affectionately known to his loved ones as Paulie was born on September 24, 1931, in Portage Des Sioux, MO. He commenced his extraordinary journey through life, a path marked by dedication, service, and profound love for his family, friends, and community. Paulie passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at his home in St. Charles, surrounded by those who cherished him most.
Paulie was not only a loving father to his children—Steven (Sharon) Ostmann, Lisa (Glen) Kachevas, and Gregory (Beth) Ostmann—but also a devoted grandfather to an ever-growing family of grandchildren: Melissa (Chad) Pahlke, Brian (Kelly) Ostmann, Brett (Trisha) Ostmann, Bradley Ostmann, Joshua (Ashley) Kachevas, Amanda (Chris) Wagner, Jenna Ostmann, Tyler (Toni) Ostmann, and Zachary (Allie) Ostmann. His pride extended even further to his great-grandchildren, Chase, Ava, Colton, Arianna, Noah, Zayla, Wyatt, Perry, and Porter, who brought him immense joy and happiness.
Paulie was the epitome of a hardworking and nurturing father, often celebrated as the greatest father in the world by his family. His approach to life was distinguished by a remarkable sense of authenticity; he was never afraid to voice his feelings, yet he always did so with a warm smile. His personality was a blend of strength and compassion, as he continually demonstrated his loving and giving nature to everyone he encountered.
Beyond his family, Paulie was deeply rooted in his community. As a dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church, he took on various roles, including serving as an Elder, a School Board Member, and Sunday School Superintendent. His passion for service extended to the military, where he honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 on the USS Duncan. This military service was a point of immense pride for Paulie, along with his successful farming career.
One touching memory shared by his family reflects a moment of unwavering dedication. At the age of 91, Paulie worked diligently in the garden until he decided it was time to prioritize his safety as he prepared for an Honor Flight. His commitment to both his work and the well-being of himself and his family captures his essence—a man who cared deeply about those around him.
Paulie's journey was undoubtedly brightened by the presence of his siblings, Orville (the late Harriet) Ostmann and Donna (the late Norbert) Heitgerd, who shared cherished memories and experiences throughout their lives. He was also preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 66 years, Eunice Ostmann (nee Ehlmann), parents, John and Esther Ostmann, as well as his beloved siblings—John (Dorothy) Ostmann, Arlene (Kenneth) Dunkmann, and Nevie (Fred) Willbrand.
As we gather to honor and remember Paulie, we invite friends and loved ones to pay their respects during a visitation on October 30, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 3866 Old Hwy 94 S, St Charles, MO 63304.
David Paul Alvin Ostmann's legacy of love, labor, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. His spirit, dedication, and profound love will continue to inspire future generations, reminding us all to embrace life with the same enthusiasm and warmth he shared throughout his remarkable journey.
