Diana L. Hachmeister

Diana L. Hachmeister, age 68, of O'Fallon, Missouri passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020 in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on September 8, 1951 to Marvin and Shirley Jacobsen (nee Williams).

Diana was married to William "Bill" Hachmeister for 49 years and seven months. Diana was an inspiration to many throughout her life. Her amazing outlook on life connected her with everyone she met. She educated herself constantly and her gift of giving knowledge was exceptional.

As a teacher's aide in Special School District, Diana paved the way for handicap accessible facilities and transportation around St Louis. She was also heavily involved in bringing the teacher's union (NEA) to Special School District. Her compassion with the mentally and physically challenged was remarkable.

Diana earned a bachelor's degree in Education in 1994. While in school full time, she was a mother and ran a Latch-Key program at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olivette. During the summers her and her daughter worked at St. Ann Summer Camps. She was the lead couselor and always made it fun for the kids and counselors. Diana taught at Normandy, Pattonville, and Ritenour Middle. While at Ritenour she received many awards including the Diamond Circle Award for Teacher of the Year and the Make a Difference award and her master's degree. Mrs. H's (her student's nickname) favorite activity every year was creating a Poetry Book that included all of the 8th grader's favorite poems they wrote. Poetry was her passion; she wrote many for the one's she loved. Her students were inspired by her ability to relate to them. She often used modern music to teach poetry in the classroom.

Diana loved to travel with Bill ( and Marcy when she was younger). They visited Destin, FL every year possible. She enjoyed nature and often took walks at Creve Couer Park, even when her health was failing, she would walk with her wheelchair. Diana and her daughter also participated in many charity walks for the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation. She continued to educate others even after retiring. Her life mission was to educate and show joy in everything she did. She always used to say the old Casey Kassem phrase, "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!"

She will be missed by many, but her memories and what she taught each person will never be forgotten.

Diana is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Hachmeister, Jr.; her daughter, Marcy Cooper; her grandsons, Brenden Cooper, and Aiden Cooper; her siblings, William Jacobsen, and Peggy (Kevin) McKinley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin William Jacobsen; and her mother, Shirley May Blume.
