Donald Lee Mattingly, Sr.

July 25, 1930 — April 2, 2017

Donald Mattingly, age 86, of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 in Bridgeton, Missouri. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 25, 1930 to Thomas and Myrtle Mattingly (nee Schek).

Donald was a Truck Driver of many years for National Food Stores where he earned numerous commendations, including many safety awards. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local #688 for over 30 years, as well as a shop steward.

Don was very devoted to his family, always putting them first above all else. Don gave everything he had to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After his family came Don's pets. He loved and spoiled them to the max, feeding them human food no matter how many times we explained to him that this was not good for the animal. Don knew that his love would overcome any physical ailment they might encounter. Ice cream and cake for dessert before their entree' of steak, hamburgers, French fries or pizza was the norm for them. Don always felt that his pets should enjoy whatever he himself was enjoying. If they were relaxing on his couch, Don would reach over and cover them with a blanket making sure they were comfortable. Because of his love and devotion, Don's pets adored him. The life of Don's pets was truly the best at the Mattingly Manor. Don's love and compassion showed what a tenderhearted person this fiercely independent man really was.

Don and his pets were weekly wrestling fans. Don's normal routine was to make sure that the needs of his human family were taken care of, then loving his pets as they watched wrestling together. WWE was on TV Monday and Thursday, so it was Burger King and fries, with his pipe at the ready to relax at the end of the night.

Don will be missed by his family, both human and feline.

Survived include his Wife, Sandra; Daughters, Stacey (Sean) Speer and Laura (Dan) Goetz; brother Larry Mattingly; grandchildren, Ghislaine Mattingly Vaught, Haile Geiler, Zachary Speer, Sheyann Geiler, Baylee Speer, Jeanelle, Mahurin, Kelly Strickland-Gates and Donald Mattingly, III. Don was a Father-in-law, brother-in-law, great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle beloved friend and animal parent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his only son, Donald Mattingly, Jr. and a granddaughter Angel Geiler.
