Donald Lee Zimmerman, Sr.

Donald Lee Zimmerman, Sr., age 88, of Saint Peters, Missouri passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 in Saint Peters, Missouri. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 6, 1935 to Herman and Gertrude Zimmerman (nee Underhill).
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Zimmerman (nee Allen); loving children, Cathy Fueller, Valerie (Shawn) Huber, and Lee (Sue) Zimmerman, Jr.; treasured grandchildren, Terry (Dawn) Klamert, Brian Fueller, Joshua Sandt, Caitlin Zimmerman, Jacob Kunes, and Lydia Zimmerman; cherished great-grandchildren, Dominic Klamert, Roxy Klamert, and Cloe Fueller; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Zimmerman; mother, Gertrude Zimmerman; grandson, Timothy Klamert; brothers, Richard Zimmerman and Bud Zimmerman; and sister, Ida Hamel.
Don built a career as a data analyst and trainer and was very proud of his work and accomplishments. He retired after working for the same company (IBM/SBC/ControlData/Ceridian) for 46 years and spent his early retirement years traveling and cruising with his wife, Mary.
Throughout his life he exemplified patience and kindness in everything he did. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. He had a beautiful and dry sense of humor that you couldn't help but smile about when he poured on the charm. He loved to tell a good, clean joke at every opportunity. "Did you know Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday again this year?" was one he brought out without fail every holiday season. He was particularly crafty with innovative tools at home and could always find a recipe of duct tape, clothespins, and rubber bands to fix any problem.
He had an enormous sweet tooth and wherever he was, there was usually a piece of chocolate or jelly beans nearby. On any given day, you could find Don "watching cowboys" as he took in a good Western or watched Ms. Kitty and Marshall Dillon handle the rowdiness of the town saloon.
He especially enjoyed visits from his family and loved family gatherings.
