Donna Lee (Overy) LaPreta was born in St. Louis, MO on April 5, 1945. Donna passed away on April 4, 2024 after a brave battle with leukemia. She was 78.
Donna was a fighter, surviving breast cancer 18 years ago. She remained relatively healthy until her diagnosis with leukemia in 2018. She came out of remission several times and successfully underwent treatment that sent her back into remission - until her most recent hospitalization. Donna rarely complained about having cancer or the pain she endured. Donna loved staying busy and through the years she enjoyed creating things - whether she was embroidering, making quilts, sewing, or planting flowers. She also enjoyed dancing, traveling, antiquing, and shopping for purses, jewelry and shoes. She would tell you that she did not like to cook but everyone agreed that Donna made the best potato salad that no one has been able to replicate. She enjoyed her husband Anthony’s cooking and loved eating out – especially Italian food and mussels. Recently, she spent hours watching her favorite shows on tv – especially the original NCIS series. She loved dogs – including her favorite fur babies Gina, Sophie and Winston.
Donna was preceded in death by her father Ralph Overy and Harriet (Overy) Swank, stepson Lawrence Chadbourne and grandson Joshua Maher. Donna is survived by her husband of nearly 22 years – Anthony LaPreta of Wright City, her son Frank Maher (Heather) of Festus, her daughter Angela Priest (Todd) of St. Peters, and her stepdaughter Lynn Frazier (Pete) of St. Louis. She is also survived by her brothers Bobby Overy (Barbara) of O’Fallon, MO, and Glenn Overy of St. Charles; and her sisters Penny Page of Wentzville and Karen Holmes (Bill) of O’Fallon, MO. Donna also leaves seven grandchildren – Nicky Herron, Caitlin Burke, Shawn Maher, Rylee Kopplin, Parker Kopplin, Kaylee Priest, and Diezel Maher; six great-grandchildren, and a host of “bonus” grandchildren. Donna will be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors, former coworkers, and extended family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for their dedicated care during her treatment, including the countless nurses who supported her and the family during her hospital stays. We also want to thank Dr. Iskra Pusic, whose knowledge and compassion for her patients is nothing short of amazing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
