Dorothy Mae Mayes, affectionately known as Dot, passed away on November 20, 2024 leaving a lasting legacy of love and friendship. Born on December 31, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, Dorothy was a vibrant individual whose spirit touched the lives of many.
Dorothy's educational journey began at Soldan High School, where she laid the groundwork for her future. Following her high school graduation, she pursued further training at Waterson College, specializing in medical billing. This career path led her to work diligently in the medical billing field from 2000 until 2011, showcasing her strong work ethic and dedication.
An adventurous soul, Dorothy loved to explore the world beyond her hometown. Although she was not fond of driving, her passion for travel was evident. Together with her husband, she reveled in trips abroad, cherishing visits to destinations such as New Amsterdam, Jamaica, and Cancun. These trips allowed her to create countless joyful memories, particularly at all-inclusive resorts that she adored.
Dorothy was known for her outgoing personality. She was a social butterfly, effortlessly making friends wherever she went. Her infectious warmth and kindness endeared her to many, and she will be remembered as a beloved figure in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Curtis Mayes; her step-daughter, Lakisha Nicole Mayes; and step-son Curtis (NaKisha) Mayes IV. Additionally, she is cherished by five grandchildren: Raysean Taylor, Caumari Mayes, Kaisin Mayes, LaMonica Mayes, Curtis Mayes V; and Alexis Mayes. Dorothy's two siblings, Deborah Mayes and Doris Ivory, along with a host of other family members and friends, also carry her spirit in their hearts.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Charles Ivory, as well as her siblings. Her absence will be felt deeply, but her legacy of love and joy will continue to shine brightly among those she touched.
