Dr. Warren Madison Brown died at his home in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, of heart failure April 12 at age 91. He lived a life of service, beginning at age 19 as an infantry soldier in Europe during WWII. He earned a doctorate from Teachers' College-Columbia University, New York, to prepare for his distinguished career in public education, including his role as a classroom teacher, a principal and the Commissioner of Education for the state of Wyoming. For over two decades Dr. Brown was the superintendent of Ferguson Florissant Schools, guiding it through Missouri's first court-ordered desegregation case. For fifteen years, he served as the financial advisor to the federal courts in the St. Louis voluntary desegregation case. Warren Brown was always a leader. He employed hundreds of classroom teachers as he lived out his deep commitment to educating young people.
Dr. Brown is survived by his wife, Donna Wadsworth-Brown; four daughters: Madelyn MacKay, Peggy Mueller, Betsey McCormack and Sarah Grunau; two step-sons: Tom and Kevin O'Kief; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and former wife Joye Brown.
