Earl James Devonshire

April 10, 1927 — May 28, 2024

SFC (Retired) Earl James Devonshire, age 97, of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 10, 1927.

In 1946, at the age of 18, Earl enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII, The Korean Conflict, and The Vietnam War. Earl earned his Commission in The Adjutant General Corp and then was later promoted to a First Lieutenant during his service. He retired from the Army after 20 years of honorable service to his Country. Earl’s decorations and awards included Army of Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Bronze with four Loops, two Letters of Commendation, and two Letters of Appreciation. Earl then went on to receive his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1973 from Washington University. During his career he worked for Chevrolet, McDonald Douglas, and the City of St. Louis. He retired from Community Federal (Boatmen's Bank) as a Systems Analyst, where he met his wife, Diane Devonshire.

Earl was a sports lover, he played softball for the Illinois Military District and bowled in a local league. He also enjoyed playing basketball and table tennis. His other hobbies included building computers, online shopping, and repairing cars. All that knew him, knew him as a doting Grandfather, avid recycler, habitual Pepsi drinker, and dog lover. Earl’s kindness knew no bounds. Whether it was lending a helping hand to a neighbor, sharing a joke with a stranger, or offering sage advice, he touched countless lives. His door was always open, and his heart even wider.

Earl is survived by his, three daughters, Jennifer (Chelsea) Devonshire-Clay, Jacqueline (Wayman) Devonshire Hightower and Joyce Devonshire; son, Joel (Linda) Devonshire; three grandchildren, Sheritta Green, Kiara Quinn, and Katrina Jones; eight great grandchildren, two loyal dogs, and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Diane Devonshire.
Visitation will be held on June 10, 2024, from 10 am until 11 am at St. Peters Chapel. A service will immediately follow at 11 am on June 10, 2024, at St. Peters Chapel, Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on June 10, 2024, at 1:30 pm.
