Eugene Thomas Broaders

Eugene Thomas Broaders, age 94, of Jefferson City, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 9, 1927 to Thomas and Anna Broaders (nee Erdin).

Gene grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and at the age of 17 joined the United States Navy and served in World War II on an LSM landing craft in the Pacific theater. He then spent the majority of his life in service as a police officer. Gene had a master's in criminal justice from Webster University and was a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Gene served over thirty years on the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Gene brought professionalism and innovation to his chosen career. After retiring he went on to serve as Chief of Police of Bridgeton Missouri and then Secretary to the St Louis Board of Police Commissioners and commander of the departments fleet services. Gene will be remembered as a great storyteller, and all who knew him, know he had lots of stories to tell. Gene's mind never stopped and he was always the guy with great ideas and great advice and never stopped trying to lend a helping hand to his family or anyone he saw in need. Gene's greatest legacy is the selfless way he cared for his wife and family. Gene's family will miss his stories, his words of advice, and his constant prayers. They are comforted by the fact they he will once again be reunited with Frances, the love of his life.
