Eugene Rowton, age 92, born in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Fay Rowton (nee Hill); loving children, Dan (Nancy) Rowton, Jane Dawson, and Mary (Chris) Nelson; treasured grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Ngo, Garrett Miller, Laurel Miller, Natalie (Matthew) Wright, Ashley Nelson, and Tiffany Nelson; cherished great-grandchildren, Hollie Shepherd, Madden Ngo, Everly Ngo, K.J. Abegg, Christopher Wright, and Truett Ngo.
He was preceded in death by his treasured grandson, David Dawson; and parents, Edgar and Clara Rowton (nee Rinne).
Gene graduated from Washington University, St. Louis with a degree in electrical engineering. There he met his beloved wife, Fay. He was a dedicated engineer with a long career at Mallinckrodt Chemical Company.
Gene and Fay were avid world travelers, visiting places like Europe, South America, Africa, and New Zealand. Traveling was their true passion.
He was very caring and giving to all his children and grandchildren. He was a big part of his grandchildren's lives, taking them every weekend to special places like the Gulf Breeze Zoo, St. Louis Zoo, Union Station, the Magic House and vacations.
Gene had many friends and participated in numerous meaningful special get-togethers and lunches. He would never pass up an invite from family or friends to IHOP where he was a favorite customer.
He showed an impeccable generosity to others and was a role model that everyone inspired to be.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County Chapel.
