Eunice D. Houston

November 1, 1948 — December 25, 2024

Eunice D. Houston, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Richmond Heights, Missouri, on December 25, 2024. Born on November 1, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, Eunice touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit and unwavering commitment to both her community and family.

A proud graduate of Harris Stowe University, Eunice earned her Master’s degree in Secondary Education and became a dedicated educator. Her career began as a Police Officer with the St. Louis County Police Department, where she served with integrity and passion. She later went on to a distinguished role as Chief Security Officer at Boeing, showcasing her remarkable leadership skills. Her journey did not end there; Eunice believed in the power of education and took on the role of a substitute teacher, impacting countless students with her firm but fair teaching style.

Eunice's personality shone brightly; she was outspoken and brave in sharing her thoughts. She embraced the principle of treating others as she wished to be treated. Generosity defined her character, as she frequently volunteered her time to various causes, including supporting the crisis nursery and organizing clothing drives through her cherished sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Eunice fostered a love for books that extended beyond mere reading; she collected them for libraries and advocated for literacy. Her interests were vast, including a deep passion for traveling and an appreciation for African art. She marveled at the beauty of different cultures and shared this love with those around her.

Eunice was immensely proud of her family. She is survived by her son Walter Houston and his fiancée Zhanae, and her cherished granddaughters, Keiara and Kelsey Houston, as well as Khaleesi Eunice Houston, a granddaughter on the way. She was also a loving sister to Sheryle Jean Peters, Avis Peters, and her sister-in-law, Pamela Jean Peters. Eunice held dear the memories of raising her niece, Jocelyn Peters, who always held a special place in her heart. Her legacy continues through many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by her kindness and strength.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Arthur and Ruby Peters, along with her siblings Mae, Meryle Joyce, Arthur Gerald, William Roscoe, James Wayne, and Solomon Peters.

Eunice D. Houston's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, love, and compassion. She will be missed profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we hold her in our hearts, let us remember her robust spirit and the love she gave so freely.
