Gary Dean Miller, born on February 16, 1951, in Paola, Kansas, passed away on November 11, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri, with his beloved wife, Laurel, by his side. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Gary dedicated a significant part of his life to his career, starting at Ford Motor Company in Olathe, Kansas, before transitioning into tile setting, a profession he thrived in for 35 years. His work was meticulous, reflecting not just his skills but also his determination and commitment to excellence.
A proud graduate of Paola High School, Class of 1969, Gary held his high school friends close to his heart, often describing them as an extended family. He was the type of person who brought warmth to every interaction, making friends effortlessly with his friendly demeanor and infectious laughter. His sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him, establishing him as not only a great neighbor but a cherished friend.
Sports were a passion for Gary. Whether it was cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks in basketball or rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals, he wholeheartedly immersed himself in the games he loved. Alongside this, he showcased his own athletic talents as a decorated track and basketball player in his youth and continued to enjoy bowling throughout his life.
Gary's greatest pride lay in his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Laurel Miller, and his two daughters, Erin (Chris) Ollig and Alison (Nolan) Enslinger. His grandchildren, Avery Ollig, Griffin Ollig, Harrison Enslinger, Eva Enslinger, Coby Enslinger, Quentin Enslinger, and Tatum Enslinger, were the lights of his life, and he often expressed how proud he was to be their grandpa. He also leaves behind step-children Wendy Jacobson, Nicole Jacobson, and Stephen Jacobson, and step-grandson, Jacob Miller.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Arthur Miller, his mother, Eva Josephine Miller, and his brother, Richard (Karen) Miller. Gary also leaves behind loving aunts and uncles, Alice and Norman Hazelbaker and Doris Reith, niece, Christy Vossen, nephew, Paul Miller, as well as cousins and friends who will forever cherish their memories of him.
In reflecting on the life of Gary Dean Miller, we remember a man of profound strength, humor, and compassion, whose spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. As we celebrate Gary's life, we find solace in knowing that his love and laughter will continue to echo in the lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post #156 in Payola, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary's honor may be made to Evelyn's House BJC Hospice.
