George Edward Strunk

June 2, 1936 — December 1, 2018

George E. "Bud" Strunk, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Chesterfield, MO. He was born June 2, 1936 in St Louis, MO. Bud married Joyce Smith on September 8, 1989 in Clayton, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce Strunk, son: Bude Strunk (Jeannette), daughter: Vicki Muckerman (Chris), two sons-in-law: Phil Harms and Tom Young, grandchildren: Shea Brooks (Mark), Jeni Woofard (Billy), Haley Strunk, Sam Muckerman, Kristin Thomas (Josh), Tommy Young, and grand-dog: Pearl Strunk, great-grandchildren: Chris Hughes, Madison Brooks, Kodi & Benjamin Thomas, sisters: Vivian Keeven, Aileen Derhake (Bob), Carole Farmer (Jim) and brother: Gordon Strunk. Bud was preceded in death by his parents: George William and Vivian Florence (Anderson) Strunk, daughter: Lynn Harms, brother: Marvin Strunk, sister-in-law: Iris Strunk, brother-in-law: Ed Keeven, and step-daughter: Cheryl Kodama .

Bud served actively in the U.S. Army from March 1955 thru July 1957 being stationed in Germany. During this time he was decorated as a sharpshooter (which probably led to his love for hunting) and was Honorably Discharged from the service in March 1963. He was very proud to be a Veteran. He was a member of the local VFW where every week he enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing cards and telling stories. Bud also served as a Managing Committee Member for the Gateway Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of American for many years.

His love for outdoors continued avidly through his entire life enjoying many, many hunting trips, especially every year to South Dakota for pheasants and New Madrid for doves. Through these trips he would always gain more friends that enriched his life.
He enjoyed and took pride every year in his garden, always growing more tomatoes than an entire village could eat, enjoyed making wine from his blackberries, and loved to hunt for mushrooms.

For many years Bud owned and operated George Strunk & Sons, Inc. originally with his father and later with his son and brothers, which eventually was changed to Turfbrokers. He always stayed with his fathers' saying…..a house is not a home until it's planted….aka….green side up.
More than anything Bud enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and spending time with his friends. His many parties were legendary. We all have special memories with, and from, Bud.
Sometimes he seemed larger than life because he lived such a full one. He will sadly be missed.
