George W. Sweet, age 87, of Fayette, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 in O'Fallon, Missouri. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 14, 1936 to Glen and Ruth Sweet (nee Eaken).
George attended Maplewood Richmond Heights High School, Class of '54. He then went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Central Methodist College, eventually completing his Master's Degree at SIUE. He was an English teacher for 30 years in the Ferguson-Florissant school district. George and Carolyn went on to own Sweetbriar Bed & Breakfast in Fayette, Missouri for 25 years.
George is survived by his four children, Tracy E. (Jeff) Spihlman, Sydney S. (Tony) Leadbetter, Bennett H. Sweet, Brad W. (Andrea) Sweet; six grandchildren, Courtney Leadbetter, Casey Leadbetter, Tyler Sweet, Sarah Sweet, Jack Sweet, Hunter Sweet; two great-grandchildren, Jordyn Leadbetter and Laney Lockhart; sister, Nancy (Phillip) Dare; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn R. Sweet; father, Glen Alder Sweet; mother, Ruth Sweet; and sister, Elizabeth Hoffman.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 6:00 pm at with Memorial Service at 6:00 pm Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at St. Peters Chapel, Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376.
