Gert Mengwasser (née Thompson) passed away on July 12, 2024 in O'Fallon, Missouri. She was born on April 27, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri. Gert was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched the lives of many with her kindness and radiant spirit.
Throughout her life, Gert found joy in simple pleasures and cherished moments spent with her family. Gert's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gert worked incredibly hard to provide for her family. Her family was more important to her than life itself.
Gert had a deep faith in the Lord and found solace in his teachings. She embraced each day with a positive attitude and a contagious sense of humor. Among her hobbies and interests were laughing, fishing, spending time with family, and appreciating the gift of life itself.
Gert will forever be remembered by her four daughters, Diane Spahn, Denise Lowes, Dana (Michael) Kiely, and Dawn (Michael) Breeden; her grandchildren, Bryan Spahn, Michelle (Jon Lovasz) Spahn, Stephanie (Nick) Boland, Rachael (Joseph) Dufek, Nikki (Chris) Hudson, Christine (Tom) Emmendorfer, Rebecca (Alec) Sullentrup, Matt Lowes, Bridget (Trey) Adams, Meghan (Bob) Terranova, Scott (Hailey) Breeden, John Breeden; and many great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Mengwasser; father, Edward Thompson; mother, Elizabeth Thompson; and son, Denny Mengwasser.
Gert Mengwasser will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love she shared unconditionally and the laughter she brought to all who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy of love lives on in the hearts of those she held dear.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church located at 403 North Main Street in O'Fallon, Missouri. A memorial mass will immediately follow at the same location beginning at 2:00pm
