Glenn Phelps Merritts, a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2024 in Chesterfield, Missouri. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Arella, and his three devoted daughters, Allison, Jennifer, and Becky, as he left this world to join the heavenly realms.
Born on June 10, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, he spent most of his childhood in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1969 and earned his CPA license the following year, paving the way for a successful career in finance. He began his professional journey at Arthur Anderson in St. Louis before joining Emerson Electric. Glenn’s impressive career continued as he took on the role of CFO for RX Net, Inc., eventually co-founding US Script in 1999, which was recognized by Inc 500 as one of the fastest growing companies in 2004. His hard work and intellect truly defined his professional life, yet he never sought recognition for his accomplishments; rather, he took pride in the impact he made on others.
Glenn served in the US National Guard from 1963 to 1965. Throughout his life, he maintained a bright and positive outlook that resonated with everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His selflessness and generosity knew no bounds; Glenn was always ready to lend a helping hand to those he loved. He had a gift for storytelling and a great sense of humor that brought joy to many.
Family was at the core of Glenn's universe. He passionately enjoyed taking vacations with his family, creating cherished memories, particularly during their visits to Maui. He was most proud of his wife and daughters, along with his grandchildren, Colton, Kyla, Ben, Nicholas, Alexander, Taryn, Madi, Bryce, and Zane. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in their accomplishments and joys.
Grief-stricken but ever thankful for his rich legacy, Glenn leaves behind his beloved wife Arella and their three daughters: Allison Merritts, Jennifer (Chris) Goff, and Becky (Turon) Blevins. His grandchildren will carry forward his spirit: Colton Smith, Kyla Smith, Ben Goff, Nicholas Goff, Alexander Goff, Taryn Blevins, Madi Blevins, Bryce Blevins, and Zane Blevins. He is also survived by his brother, Scott (Marty) Merritts.
Glenn has been reunited with his parents, Helen and Mack Estes, Jack and Edith Merritts; and sister, Mary Mack (Jan) Gieselmann. They will welcome him with open arms, rejoicing in the stories he will undoubtedly share once again.
Glenn Phelps Merritts touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. The visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 3 PM to 7 PM, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10 AM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County in Chesterfield, Missouri. A graveside service will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau at 1 PM.
