Greg Hoette, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on February 20, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, Greg lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those he cherished.
Greg dedicated his professional life to Southwestern Bell, where he not only built a successful career but also formed lasting friendships that spanned decades. After years of hard work, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and integrity.
A proud veteran, Greg served in the United States Air Force from April 1966 until his honorable discharge in March 1970. His service instilled in him the values of selflessness and duty, traits that defined his character throughout his life.
Greg was a true craftsman of stained glass art, pouring his heart into each piece he created. His passion for baking cookies filled the homes of friends and family with delightful aromas and sweet memories. A devoted fan of Cardinal's Baseball, he found joy in attending games and cheering for his team; as well as spending many years working as an usher at Busch Stadium. He loved the open road, relishing the thrill of riding his motorcycle, and enjoyed spending long days on the golf course with friends and family.
Those who had the privilege to know Greg understand him as a kind, loving soul with a remarkable sense of humor. He had an exceptional ability to lighten any room, bringing smiles and laughter to all. His selflessness and warm spirit were evident in everything he did, always putting others before himself.
Greg's proudest accomplishment was his enduring marriage to Mary, the love of his life, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising two sons, Jason and Brian, who continue to carry forward their father's legacy of kindness. He was a devoted grandfather to three grandchildren, Gabriella, Tyler, and Samantha, who adored their Grandpa and will cherish the memories made with him forever.
Greg is survived by his wife, Mary Hoette; his sons, Jason (Holly) Hoette and Brian Hoette; grandchildren, Gabriella Hoette, Tyler Hoette, and Samantha Helton; brothers, Rob (Kay) and Kevin (Mary) Hoette; sister-in-law, Judy Hoette; numerous nieces and nephews including Trisha, Hillary, Kevin, Zach, and Megan; and a host of other family members and friends who were touched by his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alphonse Hoette; mother, Paula Hoette; and brother, Bruce Hoette.
A visitation will be held in his honor on December 10, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, followed by a memorial service at 6 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Greg's remarkable life, sharing in both the sorrow of his passing and the joy of his enduring love.
As we say goodbye to Greg, let us remember the joy, laughter, and love he gave us all, and may his memory forever be a blessing.
