Gregory R. Koenig

June 15, 1958 — November 2, 2017

Gregory Robert Koenig, age 59, of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his home. He was born in Perry County, Missouri on June 15, 1958 to Rev. Robert and Ivadelle Koenig (nee Daleske). Greg attended college in Texas, first at Concordia College, where he met his future wife, Debra, and then at the University of Texas, obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education in English and History. He continued on to the University of North Texas obtaining his Master's of Arts in English Literature. He married Debra Dretke on January 3, 1981 in Giddings, Texas. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2016. Greg was a Communications Manager at Lutheran Hour Ministries since October 2008.

Greg was a servant of the Lord and man of faith. His deep love for the Lord was evident in everything he did. Greg was a member of and helped with worship at Messiah Lutheran Church since 2000. He also had a passion for start-up churches and led worship for Renew Lutheran Church and became involved with service and fundraising for All Nations Church. Greg was also the Executive Director of the Lutheran Campus Mission Association. Passionate about discipleship, Greg had a great ability to make the Gospel approachable and faithfully carried out the Great Commission through his book D360. He lived to serve his family and neighbors and often gave of his time and resources to aid them.

Greg was a talented musician and writer, had a great sense of humor, and was very intelligent. He lit up when playing guitar and singing worship music. His witty banter was beloved by all who knew him, while his disarming smile put everyone at ease. With a thirst for learning, Greg was a walking encyclopedia and loved having deep conversation about all aspects of faith and life with anyone, but especially his children.
