H. Martin Henigman, age 89, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 in Chesterfield, Missouri. A long time resident of the Lake of the Ozarks, he was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 29, 1931.
Henry Martin Henigman never liked the name Henry so he became H. Martin and then just Mart.
He was the son of Frank Henigman of Yugoslavia and Mary Layton of Perryville, Missouri. His childhood was spent in St. Louis, Missouri with siblings Francis (Bud), Mary (Mitz), and Kay (Babe).
He was already a draftsman coming out of high school where he was the editor of the Newpaper.
His career was interrupted by his service in the US Navy where he was assigned an engineman and piloted troop landing carriers during the Korean conflict.
Starting a family toward the end of his military service with Patricia Smith, they had four children while he was attending Washington University for Architecture. Supporting his family early by working as a draftsman, he soon started out on his own in collaboration with local architects where he designed buildings, houses and complexes in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan region.
Moving to Lake Ozark, Missouri, he always had his cat as a companion and raised finches while looking out on the lake to watch the sun rise and then set from his perch on the bluffs. He worked, enjoyed the night life and his relationships at the Lake. He was instrumental in the design and development of The Lodge of the Four Seasons, the surrounding Four Seasons developments as well as many of the notable personal residences in the area.
In addition to his love for automobiles, he enjoyed many hours of cruising at no wake speed, late nights along the glass like waters of the Lake of the Ozarks.
He was extremely creative, artistically accomplished, had a quick wit and great sense of humor.
He will be missed by many.
Mart is survived by his children Martin (Maureen) Henigman, Deborah Boyle, Pamela Nagaj, and Sandra Habeck; grandchildren Eric Huson, Leslie (Benjamin) Lachaud, Katie Straubel, Melissa (Rob) Denver, Bobby Nagaj, and Bryan Nagaj; great-grandchildren Andrew, Enzo, Charlie, Tristan, Ophelia, and Rilo; and sister Kay (Leroy) Hoffman. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Henigman; and siblings Francis (the late Dorothy) Henigman and Mary (the late Noil) Hackworth.
