Herbert Coster Gamble, Sr. was born to the late Costee and Bernice Gamble on April 24, 1949. He was one of nine children born to this union.
Hebert was baptized at an early age. Herbert was a member of West Point Baptist Church, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
"Herb"graduated from Carver Central High School (1968). He was offered a football scholarship to Alcorn State University. Herb always
wanted to be an Auto and Diesel mechanic. He attended Jones Jr. College, where he earned his first certificate in Auto Mechanics. Herbert moved to St. Louis, MO, where he worked for Broadway Ford Truck Sales and Service.
He advanced to become Shop Supervisor. After fifteen years, Herb decided to go into business for himself. He became the owner/operator of H&N Trucking Company. He operated his company successfully for over fifteen years. Herbert was a master of the trade- earning several awards. He taught automotive repair in the alternative education program at Normandy High School.
Herb was married to Norma Jean Wagner in August of 1995.
Together, they had four children.
Herbert Costee Gamble, Sr. went to sleep on October 10, 2021 at 11:00 am.
"Herb" was a man with a big heart. He opened his home and heart up to a great niece and nephew (2017), at a time of need. He was fun loving, and could entertain any age group within his orbit. He loved cooking and would share his recipes with his sisters to see who could compete with him. His pride & joy were his Harley Davidson motorcycle and his 1939 Chevy.
Left to morn his passing are his children: Lavonda (Isaac), Shalanda, Herbert Jr. (Reanna), and Kishauna; eight grandchildren, Erykah,
Aja, Jayla, Derekah, Karmen, Cooper, Nehemiah, Ava, and one (expected) great grandchild. His eight siblings: Pasadena, Connie (Douglas), Janie, Brenda, Leontyne, Cassandra (L'awrence), Mixon (Tammy), and Al (Jackie). And, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
