Hilda Edgley Klatt

September 9, 1921 — October 24, 2019

Hilda Edgley Klatt slipped peacefully into the arms of her Savior at her home on October 24, 2019, at 1:47 pm.

She was born Hilda Lou Vaughan on September 9, 1921, in DeRidder, Louisiana. She grew up in Beaumont, Texas, where she became a lifelong Christian and was active in
South Park Baptist Church. Hilda loved to sing and toured the area with a trio, singing at gospel and civic events.

She met Hugh Kenneth Edgley at the church in her late teens, and the two were married on September 8, 1941. Hugh joined the Army Air Corps, and Hilda became an Air Force wife, traveling the country. The couple produced three sons and a daughter to round out the Edgley family.

Hilda and Hugh moved to St Charles, Missouri, in 1963 after retiring from the Air Force, and made a life there. They were active members of Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church. In 1977, Hilda became an unexpected widow. She made a new life for herself, attending the young singles Sunday School class because they did fun things. Through her gentle and loving meddling, she helped create more than one happy marriage between her classmates, and those marriages are still strong today.

In 1994 at the age of 73, she married Larry Klatt of Denver, Colorado, who had long been a good friend of both Hugh and Hilda. Larry moved to St. Charles, and the two had many happy years of companionship until Larry passed away in 2016.

Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, Buford and Ruth Broussard, a sister Georgenia Jaschke, and her husbands Hugh Edgley and Larry Klatt. She leaves a large and loving family, consisting of sons Charles (Sally Carter) Edgley, Mark (Mary) Edgley, and Kevin (Debi) Edgley, and daughter Pat (Neal) Steinhoff. Grandchildren include Erin (Eric) Gudgel, Aimee (Wade) Dotter, Jennifer (Steve) Jouett, Bryce Steinhoff, Jill (Willie) Goeltz, Benjamin (Trista) Edgley, and Breanna Edgley. Great-grandchildren include Gabe, Grace, and Grant Gudgel, Chloe and Luke Dotter, Piper and Leya Edgley, Ezra Goeltz, and Adalynn and Olive Jouett. She is also survived by one sister, Virginia (Tom) Shelton, sister-in-law, Mary Beth Ierulli, brother-in-law, Charles Edgley, and many nieces and nephews.

Hilda never lost her enthusiasm for life, her quick wit and insightful wisdom, her faith in God, or her love for her family. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
