Jim enlisted in the United States Army in 1969, earning a Purple Heart in the Vietnam war. Upon return home, he worked for the United States Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Center in Hazelwood, Missouri for 30 years until he retired in June 2004. After retiring, Jim loved being outdoors throwing the ball around with his grandchildren, gardening, and playing golf.
Jim's passion was volunteering for his church and Service International. His travels took him to Kosovo, building shelters for families after the war, Sri Lanka, cleaning up after the tsunami, returning to Cambodia outside of Phnom Penh, not far from the Vietnam border, building an orphanage and distributing rice to numerous families, and hurricane relief in Florida and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He also helped locally after a tornado in Springfield, MO and cleanup after the flood in 1993 in Chesterfield, MO.
Jim's greatest joy was being with his family and especially his children and grandchildren!
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and caregivers from the B-200 Memory Care Unit at the Missouri Veterans Home for the excellent care they gave Jim for the last several years.
