James (Jim) Monroe Harding of Weldon Spring, Missouri, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 90 on Monday, May 10, 2021. Jim was born in St. Louis on January 26, 1931, to William and Vera Harding (nee London) and spent most of his younger days involved in sports and attending school in the St. Louis Public School System.
At Roosevelt High School, Jim met the love of his life, Geraldine (Gerry), whom he married on June 15, 1951. The two spent just shy of 70 cherished years together in marriage. They raised three children -- Kim, Kent, and Kirk. They were commonly called "Kirent!" by Dad when he was not too happy with their behavior.
Jim loved to work. He spent most of his life working for the government beginning with a tour in the US Army, followed by 40 years with Missouri Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and finally retiring after several years with the Department of Social Security.
Jim loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He taught the Scriptures to many age groups throughout the years at Grace Community Chapel and Hope Church. His passion was to help Christians grow in their understanding of God's Word and become more like his Savior. He spent most Sundays and Thanksgiving holidays leading the worship service at his church. He dearly loved the hymns of old and joyfully sang them until the last few days of his life.
He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues, and traveling. Many of his favorite times were traveling with Gerry and close friends throughout North America and Europe. For over 25 years, Jim and Gerry spent a yearly fun-filled weekend with his sisters and their spouses at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also enjoyed spending time with his immediate and extended family around meals and playing challenging games with them. He was a competitor at heart.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gerry Harding (nee Smyth), his children, Kim, Kent, and Kirk, and his sisters, Jo Ann, Joyce, and Jane, along with nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2021, from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at Grace Community Chapel, 7661 Mexico Road, St. Peter's, MO 63376. Fellowship with the family will follow after the service. A private burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Friday, May 21, 2021.
