James William Sallade, affectionately known to all as Jim, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, in St. Charles, Missouri, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. Born on May 19, 1930, in Stahl, Missouri, Jim led a life rich with purpose, compassion, and dedication.
Jim devoted an impressive 38 years of his life to the field of education, beginning his career in a humble one-room schoolhouse. He later took on leadership roles as an administrator in the Berkely-Florrisant Districts, where his passion for teaching and guiding young minds left an indelible mark on countless students and educators alike. His commitment to education was further exemplified by his achievement of a Ph.D. in Elementary Education from Saint Louis University.
An outstanding individual, Jim also served honorably as a Combat Medic in the Army during the Korean War, where he upheld the values of duty and sacrifice that defined his character throughout his life. He cherished his family above all else, finding profound joy in their presence. His beloved children, Diane (Richard) Trachsel, William Sallade, and Mona (Daniel) Jaspering, were the lights of his life. Jim relished his role as a grandfather to his treasured grandchildren—Becki (Justin) Heinen, Keith (Jill) Trachsel, Eric (Lattie) Trachsel, Adam Jaspering, Ryan (Kate) Jaspering, and Allison (Lane Gniewek) Jaspering—each of whom held a special place in his heart. He delighted in the laughter and energy of his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Lillie, Evie, MacKenzie, Hughes, Haven, Patrick, Lucy, and Isaac, who will forever carry his legacy forward. He is also survived by two beloved sisters-in-law, Ilene Baker and Faye Sallade.
Not only was Jim a devoted family man, but he also found time for his personal passions. He enjoyed playing golf and maintained an active lifestyle, frequently running well into his 80s. His zest for life was infectious, inspiring those around him to embrace joy and pursue their own passions with vigor.
Jim's heart ached with the loss of his loving wife, Evelyn Sallade, who preceded him; her spirit remained alive in the memories they created together. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Fern Sallade, as well as his brothers, Glen Sallade, Jack (Shirley) Sallade, and Gary (Kay) Sallade and his dear son-in-law, Richard Trachsel.
In his last moments, Jim was enveloped by the love and warmth of his family, a fitting farewell for a man who dedicated his life to lifting others up. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy that will forever remain ingrained in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. Jim's laughter, wisdom, and boundless love will be deeply missed and eternally cherished.
A private committal service will take place at a later date at Shibley's Point Cemetery.
