James Edward Wonsewitz, 71, of St. Charles, passed away on December 26, 2024.
He was born on December 22, 1953, in Vallejo, California, to the late Charles and Ellen Wonsewitz. In 2004, he married Sandra Wonsewitz, and together they built a life in St. Charles, Missouri. James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother.
James served honorably in the United States Air Force for several years. Following his military service, he enjoyed a successful 26-year career as a police officer with the City of St. Peters. A decorated officer, James earned numerous awards throughout his career, including recognition for his exceptional police work and quick thinking. He was deeply passionate about his profession and the positive impact he made on others while serving his community.
James and Sandra shared a love of travel. During their 20 years of marriage, they visited numerous countries, with Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, being a favorite destination. James was also cherished by many friends from both the military and police force, often meeting them weekly at their favorite local spot, Hobos, in St. Peters.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Wonsewitz; his children, Michael and Amy Schwarz; and his two grandchildren, Josephine Berra and Maggie Schwarz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ellen Wonsewitz.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, followed by a memorial service at Newcomer Funeral Home, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Dr., St. Peters, MO 63376. Burial will take place afterward at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd., St. Louis, MO 63125.
