Phyllis Janine Murphy, known affectionately as "Jan," entered this world on July 5, 1946, in Littlefield, Texas. Her vibrant spirit shone brightly throughout her life, captivating everyone she met with her warmth and charisma. After graduating from Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jan dedicated nearly two decades of her career to Dillard's, where she brought a sparkle to the china department, creating connections and lasting impressions with her coworkers.
Jan was a social butterfly, the very definition of life of the party. With an innate flair for fashion and an eye for all things that glittered, she filled every room with an infectious energy. Her love of shopping was matched only by her passion for decorating and entertaining, which transformed her home into a holiday wonderland every Christmas. Those beautiful Christmases and joyful holidays will forever remain etched in the hearts of her family.
She cherished her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, and her proudest accomplishments were her three children—Rick (Jill) Murphy, Scott Murphy, and Tara (Paul) Gniadek—and her adored grandchildren: Haley, Madison, Riley, Brody, and Jenna. Jan was a constant source of support, not just to her family, but also within their social circles, quickly becoming friends with people of all ages. She actively participated in moments that mattered, embracing each phase of her children's lives with enthusiasm and kindness.
Jan bid her final farewell peacefully in her home on September 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy steeped in love and cherished memories. She is reunited now with her beloved husband, Bill Murphy, and her parents, Judson Hancock and Fern Orme, who surely welcomed her with open arms. Her devoted brother, Bob (Judy) Hancock, and sister, Lisa (Mark) Boutross, carry on her spirit, as do her loving children and grandchildren.
To honor Jan's remarkable life and the joy she brought to everyone around her, a Memorial Gathering will take place on October 24, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Chesterfield, Missouri. As we gather to share stories and celebrate her life, we remember a woman who sparkled brightly in this world and whose light continues to inspire all who knew her.
