Janice Lawson, loving wife, mother, and grandmother went to join her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Friday, June 14, 2019, at the age of 78.
Janice was born on February 26, 1941 in Cook Station, Missouri to Elmer and Helen (Quinley) Edgar. On December 2, 1960, she married Ronald Lawson, and together they had one son, David.
Janice had a passion for people. She always loved with her whole self and poured her heart into others. She was a lover of gospel music, gardening, hummingbirds, and the color blue. She was very involved in her home church, First Baptist Church St. Charles. She served in the prayer room, Awana, the coffee ministry, and participated in multiple missions trips.
Her home was always open to everyone, and she welcomed all who came with open arms and more food than they could possibly eat. Anyone who met Janice found a safe, loving place to rest. She had a peaceful, comfortable presence and was full of life, love and laughter.
Her son David and his wife Julie Lawson have three children, Stephanie (Kal) Denlinger, Jacob (Kelly) Lawson and Wade Lawson. She was so good at being a grandmother, she was promoted to great-grandmother in September 2018 (Matthew Lawson) and again in January 2019 (Alana Denlinger). She took a lot of pride in her family, immediate and extended, and spoke about them often. She made every effort to be present at everything she could, no matter the distance. Few can love as wholly and completely as Janice loved.
Janice is preceded in death by her father Elmer Edgar, her stepmother Edna Edgar, and half-brother Steve Edgar. She is survived by her husband, her son and his family, mother Helen Pitts, sisters Jean (Willard) Miller and Judy Tompkins, half-sisters Cecilia Davis, Sharon (Doug) Scudder, Barbara (Brian) Mueller, half-brother Mike (Debbie) Edgar, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Monday, June 17 from 4-8 p.m. and at First Baptist Church St. Charles on Tuesday, June 18 from 10-11 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate her life will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Operation Smile via their website operationsmile.org and Compassion International at compassion.com.
