Janice "Jan" Q. H. Pearlmutter passed away on January 15, 2018. Beloved mother to daughters, Eve Pearlmutter, Shana Pearlmutter (Mohamed), Wende Meissner (Donald) and Christie Burns. Dear grandmother to Gideon, Ilana and Elias Meissner and Abrahim Pearlmutter-Danja. Jan was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Marilyn Stevens. Caring Aunt to John, Marilyn Ann, Paul and Robin Stevens, Great Aunt to Madelyn and Molly Stevens and Travis Dunn. Great-great Aunt to Aubree and Camron Dunn. Caring and loving confidant to many close friends both living and departed. Jan's celebration of life ceremony will take place in April close to her birthday when her favorite spring flowers begin to bloom.
Jan was born in Kirby, VT April 25, 1936 to Guy and Elizabeth. After the loss of her mother, she and her sister, Marilyn, were cared for by their grandfather Ernest on the family farm she so adored. She and her sister then moved to Michigan to be lovingly adopted by their uncle Lewis and his wife Iva, later moving to Little Rock, Arkansas graduating from Little Rock Central High School. Jan attended Washington University School of Fine Arts graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Art degree in 1958. She was a much sought-after fashion illustrator, professional exhibiting artist and art teacher in the St. Louis area.
She married Daniel Pearlmutter in 1963, divorced in 1973 but they remained lifelong companions. Jan made her home in University City, Missouri where she was involved in many facets of the community, political activism and other charitable/volunteer endeavors. As a renaissance woman, she was often called upon for her creative vision. She was a caring and gracious woman who never turned away a person or animal in need and was a loving mother to many with an open, nurturing heart and home. She loved nature and treasured spending time at the Black River, planting gardens and playing tennis with her friends. Jan was a firm believer in the power of spiritual awareness and was an energy healer to many.
Once Jan moved from her beloved home on Washington Avenue because of her loss of sight, she bravely lived in her own apartment for 15 years. Living independently and with great dignity and strength. Not until the unfortunate incident of breaking her leg and a subsequent infection, was she then moved to several nursing homes where she finally made her home at Delmar Gardens West. There, she became a part of many of the healthcare workers' lives. The outpouring of love and care for her and the friendships will be long lasting. From 2015 - till her death, her fight and struggle in so many different situations as a visually impaired person relying solely on the love and care of others was so bravely met. Her fortitude and increasingly amazing attitude both stunned and amazed many of her doctors and caregivers and was often dubbed "the comeback kid." We are at peace that now Jan can soar freely, seeing the vibrant and radiant colors of Mother Earth that she so deeply missed.
In Jan's words, "Love you, Love you, Love you and God Bless!!!"
