Jeanne Zipp

October 10, 1932 — January 26, 2023

Jeanne Marie Zipp, age 90, of Saint Charles, Missouri passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023. She was born in St. Louis City, Missouri on October 10, 1932 to Leonard and Evelyn Schock (nee Emendorf).

Jeanne was an only child which is why she wanted a big family of her own. It was very important to her that her children stay close which is why she had weekly "Sunday family dinners". As a young girl, Jeanne was definitely a "tomboy" and loved to play softball. She also took piano and voice lessons, eventually becoming an opera singer. She was offered the opportunity to further develop her voice at a prestigious institution in New York but chose to stay in St. Louis and marry the love of her life, Phil. Jeanne attended Loretta Academy high school and enjoyed attending her reunion luncheons as often as possible. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Fontbonne University and became a Registered Dietitian. Jeanne worked in various nursing homes throughout her career and really enjoyed taking care of the dietary needs of the elderly. When her children were young, Jeanne spent much of her time being a room mom and Girl Scout leader, coaching little league and volunteering at their schools. Every summer she organized a Penny Carnival with games, a play (written and performed by her kids), and Bob's special grape popsicles. Jeanne had an unwavering Catholic faith and prayed the rosary daily. She loved gardening and frequently grew plants for the St. Peters plant sale. She was also a member of the Ferguson Garden Club for many years. One of the first things she did when she moved into her new home was to start a small garden that included tomatoes and blackberry bushes. Jeanne also really enjoyed crafts and sewing. Her specialty was fleece headbands and pillows, many of which are still cherished by friends and family to this day. Jeanne loved the stock market and was a whiz when it came to picking stocks. She enjoyed managing her own portfolio to the end. She also loved the theater, so much so that Muny season tickets were her Mother's Day present for many, many years. She even has her own brick in the Muny garden. Jeanne spent many Friday nights at bingo with friends and family. Sometimes she got lucky but mostly she enjoyed being with them. She loved her St. Robert church family and her neighbors, who were more like family than neighbors. Jeanne also enjoyed spending time with her friends from Leftovers. But the most important thing to Jeanne was family. She is leaving behind an incredible family legacy of love. We will all miss her very much.

Jeanne is survived by her Three Daughters, Kathleen Peters, Carol (Michael) Callahan, Mary (Doug) Finklang; Two Sons, Robert (Barbara Seese) Zipp, Thomas (Kim) Zipp; Eight grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Orbin, Ashley Zipp, Maria (Taylor) Kabuss, Melissa Peters, Paige Finklang, Alex Callahan, Jack Finklang, Luke Finklang; Three great-grandchildren, Amelia Orbin, Ava Kabuss, Wesley Orbin; and a host of other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip J. Zipp, her parents, and her sister-in-law, Eleanor Zipp
