Jo Ann Simpson, age 84, of Kirkwood, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was born in Abington, Illinois on June 26, 1940 to Neil and Jewel Majors (nee Kittle).
Jo was a caring compassionate nurse for 50 years. She loved her patients at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, MO and always made their needs her primary focus.
In 1980 Jo met Jesse, the love of her life, at the laundromat. They were both washing their teenagers’ clothes. They bravely married and formed a new family with four challenging teens in tow. Jo and Jesse’s 41-year marriage was a sweet inspiration to everyone they knew. Their tenderness and mutual adoration was legendary. They often stated that God at the center of their marriage empowering their ability to grow and flourish.
Jo enjoyed watercolor painting, interior decorating, baking and gardening. Most of all she cherished large group and intimate gatherings with family and friends. She loved to serve gourmet meals on beautifully laden tables in her classy, yet warm dining room or lush backyard paradise. Followed by decadent desserts, including a slice of her infamous pie. Her annual “Family Cookie Day” produced over a thousand delicious morsels.
Jo Ann is survived by her Children, Lisa Sager, Tammy (Don) Sternberg, Neil Simpson; Daughter-In-Law, Teresa Courson; Fourteen grandchildren, Brad Hellmann, Liz Hellmann, Rich Russell, Christy Russell, Zach Sager, Abby Sager, Andrea Russell Bland, Nick Bland, Monica Courson, Casandra Courson, Joe Letterman, Jimmy Russell, Stephanie Sternberg, Jen Sternberg. Six great-grandchildren, Caelen Hellmann, Helix Hellmann, Evan Hellmann, Ashlynn Hoeft, Brian Knapp, Eric Courson; Two Siblings, Nancy Line, Don Majors; and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving Husband, Jesse Simpson; Son, Tim Courson; Son-In-law, Max Sager.
Memorial Service will be 6:00 pm Monday, September 9, 2024 at West County Chapel, Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 2211 Clarkson Rd, Chesterfield, Missouri 63017 with Pastor Chad Wible. Visitation will be from 6:30 pm until 7:00 pm at West County Chapel.
