ALLQUIST, JOHN W Jr. of O'Fallon, MO., died on December 1, 2019, at the age of 86. Loving husband of 58 years to Janet Markel Allquist, beloved son of the late John Allquist Sr. and Anna B. Allquist; beloved brother of the late Karl Allquist, devoted father of Dawn (Jeff) Brundt, Susan (Paul) Bastean and John (Jody) Allquist III; cherished grandfather of John (Mackenzie) Allquist, Tyler Allquist, Jacob Bowman, Reese Allquist, Rachal Brundt, Brittany Werling, Brett Werling, Evan Brunt, Emily Brundt, Will Bastean and Cole Bastean.
John received his BS in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He entered military service in 1955 and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the United States Marine Corps. In 1956, as a Naval Aviation Cadet, he began flight training and met carrier landing qualification on the USS Saipan in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1957, he received his naval aviation wings and was designated as an attack pilot. His first duty station was MCAS, Opa Lacka, Florida, where he flew Douglas AD-5 aircraft. In 1958, he was sent to Iwakuni, Japan, where he flew Douglas AD-6 aircraft and also trained as a GCI controller.
John separated from active duty in late 1959 and joined McDonnell Aircraft in early 1960, working in Engineering Administration for Space and Missile Programs for thirty-five years, retiring from McDonnell Douglas in 1995. During this time, he continued his association with the Marine Corps as a member of the Marine Corps League, holding offices at the local and state level. He worked with the FOCUS Marine Foundation, a program assisting injured Marines, and was a volunteer with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
John and his wife, Janet, are members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in O'Fallon, MO. where he served as an usher.
Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St Peters, MO 63376 (636-875-1200). A funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 8945 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, O'Fallon, MO 63366. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery immediately following the service.
