John F. Dodge

May 9, 1934 — March 13, 2025

St. Charles, Missouri

John F. Dodge, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 90. Born on May 9, 1934, in East St. Louis, Illinois, John's life was one marked by dedication, integrity, and a profound love for his family.

For over 30 years, John devoted himself to Granite City Steel, where he became known for his work ethic and dedication to the company. Starting his College career he was one of the founding members of the Beta Sigma Psi Alpha Chapter at the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana, showcasing his commitment to fostering camaraderie among his peers. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Washington University.

John was a true sports enthusiast, with a special passion for St. Louis and Illini sports. He was a fervent fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, often sharing the highs and lows of the game with his family. Known for his infectious sense of humor, John loved to tell jokes, always managing to bring laughter into any room, even if he sometimes missed the punchline.

Above all, John was a wonderful advocate, counselor, and a faithful friend to his beloved family, who regarded him as a hero. His children, Cindy, Jeff, and David, feel truly blessed to have been raised by such a genuine and loving father. His unrelenting faith in God helped guide him and his family through many trials that came up over his life. He set a compelling example of integrity and kindness, traits that they aspire to emulate in their own lives. John’s gentle and sweet soul touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

John adored his wife, Ann of 63 years, who predeceased him. Their mutual affection was evident to all who witnessed their relationship—a testament to a love that stood the test of time. He was also a proud grandfather to Matthew, Adam, Nathan, Nicholas, and Gretchen, who brought immense joy into his life.

In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who are saddened by his departure but grateful for the memories they shared. He is survived by his nephew Chris (Jan) Dodge and niece Susan Boeck, alongside many other beloved family members.

John’s love for ice cream and cookies was well known among his family, a small but delightful quirk that brought him joy in the simplest moments. As a father and friend, he was second to none, a beacon of love, steadfastness, and encouragement for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

His memory will continue to live on through the hearts and stories of those he touched. Visitation will be held on April 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri.

John F. Dodge may have departed from this world, but his spirit, love, and legacy will forever remain alive in the hearts of his family and friends.
