John Albert ("Jack") Miller Jr., 93, of Saint Louis, Missouri, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in Des Peres, Missouri. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 3, 1929, to John and Marie Miller (nee Doerfler).
Jack often said he was lucky because he married the love of his life, Lorraine, whom he met at a dance at Ladue Chapel.
He and Lorraine highly valued education. Both were first-generation college graduates, and both earned advanced degrees. Jack graduated with a Bachelor of Science and then a Master in Letters from the University of Pittsburgh. He later became a certified management accountant and a certified public accountant.
They also loved to travel, and they visited numerous U.S. states and other countries over the decades.
When he was young, Jack worked as a traveling auditor for companies including General Electric and lived on the East Coast, the West Coast, in the Midwest. Then he met Lorraine, who was a graphic artist and the widowed mother of three children. He left the road, married her, adopted the children, and had a child with Lorraine. Meanwhile, he became a professor of business, primarily in accounting, at Florissant Valley Community College, where he worked until his retirement in his seventies. His work fulfilled him and gave him time with his family.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Lorraine F. Miller; his father, John A. Miller Sr.; and his mother, Marie Miller. And his beloved Shih Tzu, Lucky.
He is survived by his children, Robert Y. (Elaine) Miller, Eric Y. (Nancy) Miller, Jill Y. Miller, and Bryan M. (Karen) Miller, and his grandchildren, Max L. Miller, Ivan M. Miller, and Emmett C. Miller. His family and friends will miss him, his kindness and humor and devotion, terribly.
Visitation will be from 3:00 -4:00 p.m. on July 8, 2022 with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m., both at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, West County Chapel, 2211 Clarkson Road, Chesterfield, Missouri 63017
If you're inclined, please send memorial contributions in Jack's name to a charity of your choice. He donated often to the Salvation Army and to animal rescue efforts.
