John Charles Robbins, age 76, of Lakewood, Washington passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 in Chesterfield, Missouri. He was born in Eldon, Missouri on August 18, 1946 to Earl and Melva Robbins (May Wood).
John was raised in Poplar Bluff where he graduated from high school. He joined the Army National Guard his senior year and the regular army after graduation. John attended basic training at Ft. Lenarwood, MO. At the age of 19yrs John was sent to Vietnam where he served 27 months with MACV Command as an advisor and RTO on two MAT teams training Montagnards and ARVIN Rangers. One team was at Ham Tan and the other was at Xuan Loc. While on R&R his second tour he married his 1st wife Mary Jo. After Vietnam John was stationed in Germany where his 1st child Renate was born. In August of 1968 his unit was sent to the border of Germany and Czechoslovakia when the Soviet invaded Czechoslovakia.
His next posting was at Ft. Knox KY. where he was a Drill Sergeant and his 2nd child John was born. John's next posting was Panama where he and Mary adopted their 3rd child Michael. His final post was at Ft. Lewis WA. where he retired from the army in Sept. 1985. John was awarded the following: Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), Army Commendation Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation w/ Palm, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon 2, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, Drill Sergeant Badge, Recondo Badge, German Army Marksmanship Badge -Bronze, Expert Qualification Badge M16 and .45 cal. Pistol. His 1st MOS was 05B20 Morse Code Operator, his 2nd MOS was 71M20 and progressed through 71M30, 71M40, and 71M50.
John is survived by his Sons, John Charles Robbins, II and Michael Joe Robbins and his Daughter Renate Marie Rain and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Melva May and Earl Arthur Robbins; Wife, Shirley Robbins.
