Joseph Christie

Joseph Christie, age 81, of Chesterfield, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021. He was born in Coimbatore, India on July 5, 1940 to Joseph and Ratnamary Thambi (nee Pillai).

To those who knew Joseph, he was an intellectual. His pursuit of knowledge earned him a Masters degree in Organic Chemistry from Tennessee Tech and a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry from Southern Mississippi. He taught at several colleges across the US and Saudi Arabia, with his final position at Butler University in Indianapolis. From his childhood and until his death, he enjoyed reading at all hours of the day and night because of his love of learning. He would often engage others in heated debates over politics, India, and historical events. His love of history also spurred his interest in travel- Joseph traveled to over 25 countries in his lifetime. Not only did he travel, he lived in various cities across the United States, and has also lived in Saudi Arabia and Thailand. He permanently moved back to St. Louis from Bangkok in 2014.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Assunta Christie; his children, Rick Christie, Devika Christie and Chandrika (Joe) Harvath; his grandchildren, Jaya Christie and Alexander Harvath. He will be dearly missed by many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. and Ratnamary Thambi.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm with a funeral mass at 12:00 pm, both on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, West County Chapel, 2211 Clarkson Rd, Chesterfield, Missouri 63017. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Ellisville, MO.
