Joseph Francis Simon, of St. Peters, MO passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Born July 22, 1964, to the late Joseph and Janet (Knobbe) Simon. He was the beloved brother of his six siblings; his sisters, Tricia Simon, Susan Simon, Alyce (Jim) Worland and Cynthia (Alan) Heathman and two brothers, Anthony (Marcia) Simon and James (Lisa) Simon. He was the proud uncle of Eric (Kristen Cook) Worland, Nathan (Jessica) Worland, Katie Worland, Matt Simon, Anna Simon, Samantha (Jake) Altman, Alex (Kyla) Simon, Jack (Zoe) Simon, AJ Simon and Erin Heathman. He was the fun-loving great uncle of Resse, Brody, Quinn, Emma, Ellie, Sophia and Blake. His constant companion, Java Bean, misses him immensely.
Joe grew up on the family farm in Portage des Sioux, MO and loved the time he spent working the fields. He vividly remembered the first time he was allowed to chisel plow solo at 10 years old — happily skipping his aunt's wedding for this grand opportunity. Operating the farm equipment led to a career of semi-truck hauling after graduating high school. He began working for a local hauling business which led to him starting his own trucking company which operated for many years.
Growing up in a small community, holidays were shared with extended family cultivating a close relationship with his numerous cousins which became a brotherhood that remained throughout his life. Many wiffle ball games were played in the yards of family homes or nearby lots.
Eventually, wiffle ball games turned into poker games. Many Friday nights in his youth included a friendly game of poker with his school friends and cousins. After a particularly good night of 'friendly poker" and bragging the next morning, his mother made him return his winnings because it was just supposed to be for fun.
His enjoyment of poker only grew. The regular games with his friends from childhood continued throughout his life. Additionally, many new friendships were formed as he joined other card groups. He cherished all of these friends and the time they spent together including his annual birthday card game each July. During his final days, their visits brought many smiles and laughter.
In addition to cards, Joe was an avid fan of profession football, hockey and auto racing. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Blues. Sundays in Fall were his favorite days of the year.
Joe was a big man with an even bigger heart. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
