Josephine Calloway, age 84, beloved wife for 61 years to the late Daniel Calloway passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Friday, June 30, 2023. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 31, 1939, to the late Peter and Frances Bommarito (nee Randazzo).
As a dedicated mother of 6, Josie poured her heart and soul into nurturing her children and ensuring their happiness. Her unconditional love and unwavering support were constant sources of strength for her family.
Throughout her life, Josie was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Josie's selflessness and genuine care for others extended beyond her family, as she generously devoted her time and efforts to various charitable organizations in her community. Josie spent many years of service with the Moose Lodge in Wichita, KS. Her duties encompassed many positions including the Moose Lodge Chaplain and the election of the most honored position the Senior Regent.
Josie found joy in the simple pleasures of life and shared that joy with those around her. She spent plenty of time with all of us in the kitchen teaching us to cook Italian food. Our holidays were filled with laughter and love as we all gathered to celebrate.
One of Josie's favorite pastimes was playing BINGO. She and Aunt Brenda Calloway (besties) would eagerly gather with her friends at the local community center every week, waiting for the thrill of marking off numbers and shouting "BINGO!" Her enthusiasm was contagious, and she formed lifelong friendships with fellow players who shared her love for the game.
As we celebrate Josie's life, let us remember her as the remarkable woman she was—an embodiment of love, strength, and compassion. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A very special "THANK YOU" to Uncle Peter and Aunt Cindy Bommarito for their true to the end support and love for Mom.
Josie is survived by her four Daughters, Fran Culbertson (Willie Huehl), Rosie Day, Josie Dody, Patty (John) Melton; Sons, the late Danny (Michele) Calloway Jr. and John (Mona) Calloway. Josie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed by many families and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, July 10, 2023 from 9am until 10am at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church at 403 N Main St, O'Fallon, MO 63366. A funeral mass will immediately follow at 10am. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
