June Elaine Jordan, age 93, entered into rest peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Born on June 3, 1930, she was the youngest child of Herbert and Edna Ninker.
June grew up in South St. Louis. She graduated from Harris Teachers' College where she excelled academically and athletically. She played field hockey, basketball, softball, and volleyball, and was a member of modern dance and chorus. For six summers, she served as Director and Dance Supervisor of the St. Louis Public School Playgrounds. She was President of her Pi Kappa Sigma sorority and May Queen in her senior year. She graduated with a BA in Elementary Education. June did postgraduate work on a master's degree in physical education at Washington University and the University of Wisconsin. That is where she was introduced to Jim Jordan. The two fell in love. She went on to teach P.E. at Cleveland High School, toured Europe for 3 months, then married Jim on May 8, 1954.
They were blessed with three daughters. While raising the girls, June returned to education as a Kindergarten teacher. She loved to play piano, especially ragtime. She could strum a spirited tune on the ukulele, too. She was an avid swimmer and won numerous medals in the Senior Olympics. Quilt making and basket-weaving were her favorite hobbies.
June lit up a room and evoked smiles wherever she went. Her energy and enthusiasm were ever present. She is dearly loved and will be missed tremendously.
June is survived by her daughters, Jill Reinwald, Joy Karel, and Jane Duncan; mother-in-law to Bob Karel and Francis Basler. She is the cherished grandmother to Jordan and Sarah, Grace and Rob, Jordan, Hunter, Mason, and Casey; proud great-grandmother to Zane and Madison, Eve and Haven, Ryder, Latham, Avery, Finn, and Matthew. Her outstanding example and loving imprint will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends.
Thanks for the memories…Junie-Babe!
