Laura Tapp Binns, age 91, of O'Fallon, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Delmar Gardens of O'Fallon. She was born in Kearney, Missouri on January 23, 1925 to Lewis W. and Mary Jane (Searcy) Tapp. Laura graduated from Liberty High School, in 1944. She attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and was the 1947 Homecoming Queen. It was at William Jewell where she met, her husband, James Walter "Walt" Binns. Walter was a returning Air Corp B-17 Pilot and son of the President of William Jewell. They married May 27, 1948 in Liberty, Missouri. They moved to Beverly, Mass., and later Valley Forge, Pennsylvania as Walt pursued a career with General Electric and Laura was a wife, mother, volunteer, and home keeper. She had four children. James Walter "Jim" Binns, Laura Estes, Lewis Tapp and Jane Mallary. Walt and Laura remained loyal to their midwest ties, returning to Clay County often to visit her large family there. She received the "Alumni of the Year Award" for William Jewell College in 1977. After retiring, they moved to Savannah Georgia, where she lived on Skidaway Island. Laura and Walt loved to stay active and were both very accomplished in golf, tennis and bowling. She was a member of P.E.O., a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and especially the Chandler Hospital Auxiliary in Savannah, Georgia. Laura and Walt were also members of The Baptist Church in the Great Valley, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and Skidway Island Presbyterian Church, Savannah, Georgia.
Laura is survived by her husband, James Walter "Walt" Binns of O'Fallon, MO, her brother Lewis (Joyce) Tapp of Liberty, Missouri, a son, James Walter "Jim" Binns, Jr. of Springfield, Missouri, daughter, Laura "Lolly" (James Ellis) Binns of Troy, MO, a son, Lewis T. (Rita) Binns of Overland Park, Kansas, and daughter, Jane M. (Bruce) Hill of Saint Peters, Missouri; her grandchildren, J.J. Ellis, Mallary (AJ) Henry, Katy (Chris) Slankard, Drew (Lacey) Binns, Becky Ellis and Chris Binns; and a great-granddaughter, Collins Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lorene (Bob) Carson, and brother, Fred (Nadine) Tapp.
